On a whim three weeks ago a friend and I swung by Jax for Saturday morning brunch. I have been addicted to Jax ever since (I've been 5 times in the last three weeks in order to assure I got the "full" experience, also, I luckily live only a block away). This little Benton Park restaurant is, quite simply, one of the best (if not the best) spots to grab breakfast or dinner in the St. Louis area. Everything I've ordered has been delicious, this list includes: steak, breakfast sandwiches, fried chicken, pork, potatoes, tuna nachos, bacon, and a desert or two. Not only was it all amazing, but the prices are very reasonable and the food was cooked perfectly (I don't always trust a non-steakhouse with cooking my steak, but I trusted Jax, and that trust was rewarded). Not only is the food fantastic, but the atmosphere and service are just as impressive. I have been served by Neil and Katie, both of whom were expert servers. And let me just take a second to sing Neil's praises, he makes an expert cocktail and is fantastic with kids and adults alike, he truly adds to the experience. It's rare to find a restaurant with this combination of stellar food and great service (and nearly impossible when you include the reasonable prices). I already consider myself a regular here and, if you haven't been, I would suggest getting here as soon as you can before the crowds start lining out the door on a daily basis. Run, don't walk, to Jax.

Sunday Brunch is wonderful with made-to-order omelettes, fresh fruit and pastries. But the service was not too good---had to ask for more water and coffee. Plus we had to ask for our check and then wait awhile. The place wasn't that busy either.

I wanted to like this place....I did. Seemed cool enough but there are some things that just try a little too hard. The adult beverages were not good....and I hated the fact that I had to change my clothes before we continued our day.

Randomly came across here during lunch - and will be back soon! I got the breakfast sandwich and it was really good - I do think there should be two eggs on the sandwich instead of one. My friend got the Southwest Roast Beef and she said it was good too. The french fries were fresh cut potatoes and were okay, next time I would ask for them to be well done and I think that will make them be awesome.

For lunch, this is an excellent, slightly more upscale & inventive option for the Soulard/Benton Park area. Choose from the white table-clothed but still approachable interior or dine on the front sidewalk - either way, you'll find the menu options (which do change fairly regularly) both substantial and surprising....in a good way. The yellowfin tuna appetizer rocked, and the breakfast sandwich was fresh, hearty and I imagine PERFECT for a hangover. Sit back and savor Jax's light, pleasant atmosphere.

Great for Sunday brunch. They offer a buffet style brunch with bottomless mimosas and bloody marys. Only $17. Staff were great, very welcoming!

I wanted to check out the place because in last months Sauce they bragged about the bottomless mimosas, plus they had outside seating. I was meeting a friend for brunch and everyone said to make sure we got reservations. Hmmmm I don't know why we were the only ones there for the first 30 minutes. Our server thought he was being funny by insulting me, well I will play if you don't screw up my order. Yes, he brought the mimosa but I had to ask the owner for a cup of coffee, hmmm because he was standing out back smoking. We did the brunch buffet, the food was nice nothing to give a rave review about. The cheesy eggs were fluffy, the waffles weren't much different that what I have at home. We shared a chocolate sconce. Good thing the company was good. I am not saying it wasn't nice, thank heavens for the mimosa's.

We've had a great experience each time we've come here. They did a great job catering to a large group, staff was thoughtful and prompt, atmosphere was nice, and of course the food was fantastic. Great wine list. We'll definitely keep returning!

I am pretty stingy with my 5 star ratings, but I think Jax deserves all 5. I will stipulate that I was there for a private party and we had a room to ourselves with exceptional attention and service, so I can't compare it to a more traditional dining experience. The appetizers were all fantastic. I highly recommend the truffle fries. The fries are fried just right with the most satisfying crunch on the outside. The seared yellowfin tuna nachos were perfection. The smokey pulled pork queso was also nice. For the main course, I had the balsamic smoked brisket pretzel sliders with potato salad. The brisket was fantastic! Very flavorful and not dry at all. The balsamic added a touch of sweetness that took it to a whole new level, served on a pretzel bun... What more could you ask for? The potato salad was very chunky with fresh dill, very tasty. For desert, we sampled the chocolate trio- all delightfully rich and creamy, but I must say the bread pudding took the cake...So to speak. I highly recommend this place.

The Sunday Brunch Buffet is fantastic. Most brunch buffets are pretty basic: fake scrambled eggs, dry/hard biscuits and soft bacon. Not at Jax Cafe! Everything was high quality and super fresh! The omelet station was stocked full of fresh and interesting ingredients. They even had chorizo and jalapeños (that didn't come out of a jar). The staff was extremely friendly and you could tell they loved working there. The only reason I didn't give it a full five stars is because the mimosas were in pre made pitchers (the restaurant pre made them so they would be able to keep up with the endless promotion). You could tell, based on the dark yellow coloring and how full you felt after a few, that there wasn't an appropriate ratio of champagne and OJ. A lot of OJ. Would have liked to have more champagne. I'm still going back sometime soon! Great place!

If you enjoy watching Food Network, MasterChef, etc., this is the place for you. It's gourmet food -- not just overpriced food. I've been a handful of times and have yet to be disappointed. The bone-in pork chop (properly cooked and juicy), truffle fries, short ribs, and bread pudding are some of my favorites. Check out Jax Cafe on a Wednesday night, and you can try a "throwback dish" that's no longer on the menu... and get any other entree for half price. You can't beat that.

Had a great quick bite here for lunch. Pork 3 ways sandwich was heaven. Chef knows his stuff. Wait staff disappeared at the end of the meal and had to be hailed like a cab but other than that, it was very enjoyable.

I am going back and forth between a 3 and a 4. I'll go with a 4 though. We started off with the duck and beet appetizer. It was very tasty but there was only 1. For the same 8 dollars, I'd get the truffle fries which could be easily split by 2-3 maybe 4 people. We also split the corn bread pudding. I thought it was excellent. It was large enough for 2 people, maybe 3. We split the duck confit and the special of the night pork loin. Duck as a whole is not overwhelming so I wasn't expecting a whole lot so that's fine. The corn was ok, a little plain. The sweet pancake - wow that was good! The pork was very very tasty, though overcooked. My wife who is a stickler for dry meat was able to overlook it because of the flavor was solid. Jax is in a part of town that is safe but sketchy. For the price of the meal (OTD $70 for 2) I was expecting a little nicer venue/bathroom. For dinner, I would have liked to have dined in the back as opposed to the front. But considering the part of town, the more I think about it, I can overlook the ambiance. The head chef came out to our table to check on us. That meant a lot imo. Would I go back? Eh, probably not but I certainly don't regret going. Would I recommend this place for someone who wants a nice meal in Benton Park, yes I would recommend them.

We sat at bar for brunch on easter sunday. Neil was our guy. I thought the price was a bit high, considering the food selection was a bit lacking. It being easter, places can charge what they want and the people will still pay. The omelet/ egg station was great. Neil really does make the best bloody marys in the city. I did think the selection was a bit lacking, no waffle station, but lots of good fruit. My husband and I had a good time, left full. He and what seemed like everybody else loved the bread pudding.

Small corner restaurant. Some outdoor seating is available. Went there for brunch on Sunday. We arrived at 11:00am. There were several tables available. We had to wait for about 10 -15 minutes to be greeted. I looked at the buffet offerings. Nothing special was being offered, and frankly it looked in desperate need of service. Finally, the couple in front of us was seated. Two tables remained. We were informed that there was a reservation that required both tables. Problem is the tables were catty corner. I was told that there was a 10 minute wait for the table that another couple was going to be leaving. The problem is they were just starting the entrees. Also no one was there. So we left. I felt as though I was lied to. Since it was 1115. Who makes a reservation for 1115? So either the reservation was late and for 1100? Or for 1130? If at 1130 they could have seated us. And the reservations could have taken the diners table no problem. Either way it was an uncomfortable scene and remarkably poor service. Not only did we leave, but so did the couple behind us. I guess they were not buying the bs either!

I was torn on weather to write this review or not. Should I keep it to myself, so I will not have to wait for a table when the crowds rush to experience their greatness. Or do I sing their praises, to guarantee their success so I can continue to enjoy their tasty breakfast for a very long time. As you can see, I am singing and singing loud. This is my new favorite week day breakfast. This past Tuesday, I kind of created my own special Sunday Brunch type breakfast. I started out with a Bloody Mary, made with a house mix which smooth and not overly spicy. The BF enjoyed a Pimms Cup and I will say it was the best Pimm that I have tried in Saint Louis. If you're a fan of a PC, I suggest you try one here. I heard great things about the Chicken Biscuit and it rates right up there with an order of Chicken and Waffles. The house made biscuits, smeared with sriracha butter, then topped with two spicy fried chicken breast and drizzled with clover honey. I was in heaven. They came with a side of potatoes that were diced in to huge pieces and fried crisp. The BF enjoyed the Jax Benedict, which was not your typical Benedict. No English Muffin here, the foundation of this Benedict was a potato leek. It was then layered with salmon, a perfectly poached egg and sauce béarnaise. That potato leek, put this Benedict in a league of it's own and it was a winner. Being a farm boy, I could not resist and had to order of their biscuits and gravy. Two of their big flaky biscuits smothered in house made sausage gravy. I really liked the gravy, it was seasoned just right. Normally, when I get B&G's out, they are overly seasoned with salt, but not at Jax Cafe. We shared this tasty country delight and we couldn't clean the plate, it was a hefty serving. The service was great and I look forward to my next Sunday off. I normally work Sunday, but my next one off I will be here for brunch.

Finally got to try Jax Chilean Sea Bass, after trying once before on a day they were closed. It wasn't on the lunch menu, but after calling ahead, the bartender Neal reassured me I could order it. It was amazing atop some sort of potato concoction dressed with hollandaise and balsamic reduction. I'll be back!

Maybe we experienced on the wrong day (Easter), or the chef had an off-day, but the (holiday special pricing) $25 buffet with $5 Bloody Mary was worse than iHOP. Not-so-good biscuits & gravy (need to search for biscuit not burned on bottom... gravy not hot). Small piece of lobster at dessert table (points for creativity, but deductions for execution... seafood was lukewarm and needed to spit it out). Omelette bar was OK (meat, tomatoes did not taste fresh). Scalloped potatoes were not fully cooked; inedible. My wife said "Avoid the Muffins!"... I asked why later, and she said she observed many insects in the Muffin serving bowl (on dessert table). Friendly people, but health inspector needs to visit this place. Again, maybe we sampled on a bad day... just trying to provide accurate information to Yelpers (the 4-5 stars are not warranted, c'mon !) Best wishes to all.

I went to Jax Cafe for a work holiday party and I was excited to get to try a new restaurant. It is nestled away in a cute little area in Benton Park. My office party was about 30-35 people and we had the back area of the restaurant all to ourselves. There were truffle french fries with aoili sauce, bacon wrapped scallops and one other appetizer out for grazing. The french fries and the bacon wrapped scallops were delicious and we all basically filled up on the delicious appetizers sitting out being refilled all night long! The staff was incredibly kind and fun. We all had a great time ordering drinks and chatting it up. We sat down after lots of apps and drinks to a long table. We had already pre-ordered our meals, which made the flow go over well. I had the spring salad, chicken dish and a red velvet cake. MY husband had the BBQ salmon, house salad and also the red velvet...However, my mom and dad both had different desserts that were amazing: the bread pudding and chocolate souffle. Yum. My salad was nice, it was small but it was more than enough for a 3/4 course meal. My chicken was with potatoes and it was just grilled chicken, I was expecting something a bit more, but it was still cooked well. All in all, I heard that the brunch is amazing - so I will be back to Jax! Plus the neighborhood is super cute...

I really should only have to say one thing - Sunday $17 all you can eat brunch buffet that INCLUDES bottomless mimosas! Seriously. Already includes the booze. Sold. For Yelpiness reputation, however, I will continue. My friends and I happened upon Jax Cafe looking for a spot to grab breakfast last Sunday before the Blues game. We luckily made a reservation, because it got quite busy just after our arrival and with rain in the forecast, sitting outside wasn't all that appealing (looked fantastic otherwise though). The inside is small and cozy but feels very fresh and open, giving the feel of a casual meal on your enclosed patio. There are a few tables (I imagine more when the buffet is set up as well as a hand full of seats at the bar. We got a table for 6 and were greeted quickly. Arriving later than expected, I decided to eschew the plated breakfast options and go for the buffet. The aforementioned included mimosas didn't hurt my decision making. I sampled just about everything and am very happy to report that all was well seasoned and cooked. The eggs were creamy and included spinach (yay for vegetables!), the meat plentiful and not undercooked (I'm a fan of a crispier bacon, for sure), and an omelette station was available (but I was unwilling to wait). I did also grab a smoked salmon "martini" which was a lovely presentation but hard to eat. The only thing I disagreed with from other reviews are the pastries. They weren't bad by any means but to say they were incredible or "the best ___ I've ever had" leads me to believe someone had a few more mimosas than myself. The muffins I found to actually be a little dry. All in all, I was really pleased with our breakfast selection. I can't imagine going out of my way to go again, as we live out in Ballwin, but if we're looking for a breakfast locale in that area again, I'd be more than happy to return and would recommend it to others.

Might need to update their hours. Yelp shows open all day Saturday and the sign was even flipped to open. We walked in around 4:15 on Saturday and were told they were closed until 5. Hope to try it soon.

Meh. Not memorable food. Adult coffee beverages were just made with a lot of booze. And it smelled like horrible grease trap in the place. We had to go home and change clothes before continuing on with our day.

Absolutely LOVED Sunday brunch at Jax cafe. If the all you can eat buffet and bottomless mimosas aren't enough for you then the quaint atmosphere and people will definitely impress you! The food was wonderful. I couldn't finish one mimosa before someone was already refilling my glass!

Excellent food & atmosphere in Benton Park. Thrilled to have Brian Hale still in St Louis doing what he does best: delicious food, quality ingredients presented beautifully. Even a basic burger was elevated w addition of tobacco onion & Boursin. Can't wait to come back for dinner!

Jax is a great place in the awesome Benton Park Neighborhood. Jax has a fantastic chef who cooks up topnotch dinners. I've been a couple times, the hood is super high quality and in my opinion the price reflects the quality. It's not a cheap place but like I said, the food is great. I will say, I've been for the brunch and it wasn't good. So avoid the brunch, it's buffet style and just isn't good. One thing to realize about the neighborhood as a whole... It's super laid back, and chill so expect that kind of atmosphere and service. It's different but it's fun... enjoy!

A solid five star experience. Had lunch with my girlfriend there today and we both had the shrimp tacos. Couldn't have been more tasty and perfectly cooked. My green beans side were the best green beans I've had in awhile due to whatever they were seasoned with. My friend had the truffle fries side and she thought they were very good. The service was excellent and the atmosphere couldn't have been better. Definitely will be going back.

We opted for the Sunday brunch for our second visit. We both agreed we prefer their regular breakfast menu. The omelet bar was good, but the buffet options were lacking. The biscuits seemed like they were from a can and overcooked, the gravy was lacking flavor. The pastries were all hardened like they were old. There was a very pretty shrimp dish served in a martini glass, but the flavor wasn't as attractive as the presentation. We both agreed their regular menu was more impressive. Service also seemed a bit chaotic.

Tried Jax for the first time today, and it wasn't bad. Got the brunch, which didn't have as many food selections as I was expecting for $17 compared to other brunches, but not bad nonetheless. The chicken was the best part of the meal. If you are a drinker, which I was not, the $3 additional for bottomless mimosas and $5 bottomless Bloody Mary's were what most were taking advantage of.

Thanks to all the yelpers that wrote about Jax Cafe. Great atmosphere, great service, great food. Came for the Sunday brunch, which is around $18/person, and I think they included coffee and mimosas. Come early, it really got busy after 11. Of course, I had to try the waffles. They really had a special touch, they were flavored with lemon or some other citrus extract and a hint of sugar. They also had brisket, which was amazing: moist and flavored well. The parmesean crusted eggs were ok, that's probably my bias against anything with a ton of cheese. They had been sitting in the pan for a bit, and we're cheesy and melty, but kinda hard. The biscuits and gravy were nice - I added the brisket and some sriacha to the gravy, and it hit the spot. The sausage was good, but the gravy was light on the meat. The biscuits were amazing, fluffy, hot, and soaked all the gravy goodness.

Unlimited food and bottomless mimosas for $17? What else should you be doing on Sunday mornings?! This spot has quickly become my favorite brunching spot. Not only does Jax greet you when you walk in, but he changes up the menu every week to keep you wanting more (except for the omelet bar...that always stays, thankfully!) The waitresses watch your glass like a hawk and swoop in once your mimosa begins to get low; it truly feel bottomless! I HIGHLY recommend you give this quaint cafe a try. Be sure to come early (~9:30) or make a reservation because the seating is VERY limited.

This is my new favorite South City restaurant!! Everything is absolutely awesome!! The chicken biscuit is wonderful...the Doctor is pretty good...but not better than the chicken biscuit. G's Breakfast sandwich is my favorite lunch choice! Dinner was equally as amazing. The fried pork chops and the super tasty and the beef ribs were delicious! And to top it all off...Neil (greeter/bartender/waiter/everything) makes you feel like you never want to leave!!!

Meh. I expected a lot after these stunning reviews but I received adequate. Parking is city street side so it's expected to be challenging. I was there for Sunday brunch with family. However, there was no choice about what to eat. The staff was short handed so we were all having buffet. Ok, no biggie. Bloody Mary was spicy and delicious. Buffet was what you'd expect from a buffet-- lukewarm with some items never refilled until you asked. Didn't have omelet but others did and said it was good. Baked goods are not homemade and doughy. Service was fine. Restaurant is sweetly decorated. Prices were a smidge high for a modest buffet.

I have been here alot. A few weeks ago we went for dinner and I asked for a jack and coke, and they were out. No big deal, I had a Makers Mark. We also had the tuna nachos and the ribeye and the pork belly. The tuna was good. So we went back a week ago for dinner and we sat outside and I asked for a jack and coke. She comes back and they didn't have any. Seriously? So there was a cocktail list and on it it says Lemonade and ask the server what it is. So I do, and she tells me she is not sure there is alcohol in it, but it was strawberry lemonade and I said, ok, well put some vodka in it for me. Great. She literally comes back and says they just ran out and that they had some melon lemonade, I said just get me a cranberry and Grey Goose, thankfully they had that. Also, when we got the bill I was billed for an "alcoholic lemonade" at 7.50, even though thats not what I got, and I wonder if all cocktails like a cranberry and grey goose is 7.50, maybe it is, I don't know. We ordered the ribeye again, the scallops and the tuna nachos. Nothing was as good as I remembered and seriously, 14 dollars for TWO bay scallops? The waitress did tell me she was never really trained and it showed, but she was a complete sweetheart, but I wonder what the heck is going on.

Very good menu, lots of interesting and tasty dishes, from appetizers through soups, entrees and desserts. The chef and sous chef are two of the best in STL and anything they serve will be delicious. The establishment has nice people and atmosphere, the only thing keeping them from 5 stars is lack of Coca-Cola.

I wish i could give it more stars! Came for sunday brunch and i feel i got my $17 worth and more. Had i not been on the upside of a hangover id have gotten the bottomless mimosas (next time). I really have no complaints about Jax Café. They did everything right. Place was clean, food was good, service was excellent and I walked in on a Sunday when the brunch was going on. For $17? you got unlimited samosas (I just took the oj straight), an omelet station, some really good fried potatoes, fluffy flavorful scrambled eggs, some prime rib (very good), green beans cooked right, good thick bacon and some biscuits and gravy . They also had an assortment of pastries with some excellent fruit Danish ones, very good. There may be something I am missing but I want to go back to try the dinner. That menu looked good. I'll go back for sure.

I came to Jax with a few friends before hitting up a Blues game. Shout out to Jean P. and Cara B! We'd discussed a brunch locale for before the game and every other buffet we found was over $20 and if it included mimosas, it was well over that! We came upon Jax thanks to a few glowing yelp reviews and noticed it would only be $17 for an unlimited buffet plus bottomless mimosas!! If that's not a deal, I don't know what is. The selection of food wasn't extremely vast, but it was all you needed. Waffles, bacon, eggs, an omlet bar, pastries, potatoes, and biscuts and gravy. There were a few other items that didn't interest me as much, but it seemed like there were options for someone with every kind of taste. I think they even had a pasta set out. The food was good, not the most phenomenal breakfast food I've ever tasted, but very good, satisfying, and a decent price! I was especially fond of the chocolate chip muffins and the tasty egg casserole with cheese and spinach (or at least I think that's what it was). The restaurant was small, but we were able to make a reservation which I totally appreciate and that meant we didn't have to wait at all for a table. Bonus! On a nice day, it would've been awesome to sit outside, but alas, it was kind of cold and rainy. If I was going to look for a brunch buffet again, I'd definitely come to Jax!

Oh man, so good. I'd get here quick before more people find out about it, I foresee Benton Park Cafe style lines. Chicken biscuit, two spicy fried chicken breasts on homemade biscuits, drizzled with sriracha and honey and served with crispy and bountiful potatoes. Nom. So very very nom. Another sandwich w/ pulled pork, fried egg, arugula, cheeeeeeese, and caramalized onions was excellent, too. Service was awesome.

This review is based purely on organization of this place for their brunch. It is one giant cluster and everyone running around clueless which is kind of baffling considering I sit at a table, you bring me a drink and I serve myself. We were asked if we had a reservation. Um, a reservation for 2 people for a buffet? Get out of here. You have empty tables for all of those "reservations", other tables leaving and a line of people getting zero information of a wait time, noone bussing a table, meanwhile I'm walking out the door because you can't get your shit together. I was a server and a bartender for years, it takes quite a bit for me to not be understanding but a place that has been open for awhile now shouldn't be operating like this. Until they fix it, we won't be back.

Jax Cafe is a great new brunch, lunch and dinner cafe that opened in the former home of Pointers Market. It's a cute corner shop at Pestalozzi in a mixed residential area of historic Benton Park (next to The Filling Station and 1 block from Venice Cafe). It's bright and airy with original art, brickwork, and a bar that is topped with a penny decoupage. They have a frequently changing menu of salads, sandwiches, fish tacos, entrees, and brunch on Sundays. The menu can be inconsistent at times, but brunch has taken off. The brunch menu includes biscuits and gravy, an omelet bar, eggs, breakfast meat and a hot lunch entree that changes weekly. The pastries are a little too large for a brunch taster, but hey... it's the bottomless mimosas and $7 bottomless bloody mary deal that keep me coming back. Brunch gets busy and fills up, but they have recently expanded the space. They also have happy hour during the week with great food prices.

Just had dinner at Jax Cafe for my husband's birthday. It was my first time there and the food and service was fabulous. Our waiter was super attentive however it was a cold and not busy weekday evening. The Benton Park neighborhood has lots of neat old buildings and I liked the exposed brick. They start the meal with delicious freshly baked bread with honey/bourbon butter. We had the house and spinach salads, both excellent. Our entres were all great and you have to try the cinnamon roll bread pudding with salted caramel ice cream. Would love to come back and try their Sunday brunch.

The food, drinks, and atmosphere here are all exceptional. If Neil takes your order, you're in luck. The combination of high quality without pretense will keep me coming back to this corner neighborhood joint on a regular basis.

My wife and went here for a late breakfast on a Saturday after reading several Yelp reviews. We could not have been happier with the food as both of our meals were exceptional and out of the ordinary. My wife had hazelnut pancakes with a lemon cream which was an excellent and refreshing combination. I had the G's breakfast sandwich which was also very fresh and had a unique flavor. We split some biscuits and gravy just to try them. The gravy was very good but the biscuits could use a little help. I also had a Bloody Mary and was very pleased with the flavor. We will definitely be back to try their Sunday brunch and their lunch sandwiches looked really good as well.

My husband and I specifically come here for their delicious chicken biscuits! We came this morning and they told us the menu wasn't available due to being short handed and the brunch was the only option. The owner could tell how bummed we were so he said "You want the chicken biscuit? We will take care of you." So he opened up the kitchen for us to make the chicken biscuit! Love this place!

Went to Jax for brunch on a Saturday. Had the chicken on biscuit which was excellent! Also, the manager made us Bloody Mary's with Siracha instead of horseradish which was out of this world. This is a must go place the next time I am in St. Louis!

AWESOME! Found this place from yelp and close to my house. I used to go to Benton park cafe all the time until they started changing everything and the service is terrible. This is right down the street and is much better! Absolutely loved it! Came in on a Sunday for the brunch. They have all you can eat omlettes, breakfast, pastries, AND MIMOSAS for $17. Totally worth it and very filling. Cute little place. The staff is very nice and were appreciative when I told them I loved it.

I came here for brunch with a friend who hadn't been yet, but had heard good things. It was prime brunch time, but we were seated right away. Cozy atmosphere. You can color with crayons on the tablecloth :). She got a bloody Mary, and I got a bottomless mimosa. Something was off with her bloody Mary, I can't remember what... so she ordered a mimosa. They mean BOTTOMLESS. The waitress kept filling our glasses to the top after every three sips it seemed like. I had no idea how much I was drinking. I am usually really turned off by buffets, so maybe this is unfair. But with the exception of my fresh-made omelet, everything was cold. Then the bill came and I was taken aback. I basically paid $25+tip for an omelet and a LOT of orange juice. I want to like this place - I really do. But for brunch I'm going to stick with my old reliable Benton Park Cafe. Maybe I'll come back to Jax for lunch... truffle fries sound awesome?

Hi! Following up on a previous review.. I have been to Jax several times now and I cannot express how good their pork chop dinner is! Every time I go, the meal is impeccably seasoned and cooked. The consistency is fantastic! In my opinion, it really sets them apart! I would like to see some more craft beer on the menu, but that is really my only knock!

The truffle fries are to die for! Although pricey, I would eat there again in a heartbeat. I was there for dinner and had the chicken entree. This is one of the best meals I've had in the city and the waitress was outstanding. The desert my boyfriend and I shared was the cinnamon bread pudding with gooey butter ice cream on top. So good.

This review is based on two visits, both exceptional. The first visit was with my wife on a Friday morning. She had the breakfast burrito with Spanish rice. I had the Chicken Biscuits, and we both enjoyed a very good made from scratch Bloody Mary. Everything was fresh, full of flavor, and far from ordinary. Both of our meals were very large portions, way more food than one would expect for the price, anywhere. Unbelievable considering the quality of this carefully prepared food. That alone would justify five stars, but at the end of the meal, as we were leaving, chef Brian Hale (check out his resume) popped out from the back and asked us what we thought. After stating our praise for the meal and wondering how a place this good could just pop up, he gave us a quick story of his background and his food philosophy. This guy gets it. For the second visit we took my parents for a Sunday Brunch. Again, excellent in every regard. Quality food, made with fresh ingredients, and anything but ordinary! I don't want to spoil any of the experience for you but according to Brian everything is made with love. As others have mentioned, I soon foresee long waiting lines to get in. There are only 8-10 tables and 10 or so counter/bar seats available (outdoor seating when weather permits) so get there early! Chef Brian, thank you for bringing your anti-corporate, do-it-your-way craft cooking to the Benton Park area!

Great menu, service and a good bar. I've taken groups of 20 in there before and have not once eaten anything I wouldn't go back for again! The chef Brian is personable and proud of what he serves. Always a great experience and kid friendly! If they can get a dozen 16 yr old hockey players in and out the door in less than 45 minutes they have their priorities in order. Highly recommend the pretzel sliders! I actually had one of my players thank me for introducing his family to this restaurant , that is a great way to end this review.

We'll be back again. Seemed like the Sunday we went they were short handed, the owner was bussing tables, working the omlett station, taking orders and being hostess. They were running out of food for the buffett.. and were very aplogetic about it.. We'll give them a try again. The food was delicious!

I came here the first time shortly after Jax opened. I had the chicken biscuits with honey. Delicious! It's taken me a while to get back here, mostly because they're not open for dinner. I came in today and got the G's Burger. The first thing I can say about it: messy. The second thing: delicious! Meat, bacon, cheese, more cheese, onion rings, tomato and spinach. Plus what looked to me like a mix of relish and BBQ sauce. This place needs to open for dinner so I can try it out more often!

I can only describe my experience here as bizarre. My boyfriend brought me here as a post-half marathon brunch treat, so I got the all you can eat and drink special. The food on the brunch buffet, such as the tuna nachos, was delicious and inventive- when it was there. A lot of the containers on the brunch were empty or only had little bits of dried, crusty food at the bottom. Jax could definitely work on coordinating changing out the containers and ensuring that at least some food options are always available. I literally left my all you can eat brunch hungry. More troubling was the service. Our server seemed sweet enough; however, she was wearing yoga pants. Now I'm all for comfort and the yoga practice, but it seemed a little odd for our server to have "Pink" emblazoned on her butt. Beyond that superficiality, she was just an appallingly bad server. After sitting down, I quickly gulped down a mimosa. When the waitress came back to take our order, I asked for a water refill and another mimosa. The waitress had to come back two more times to ask what I had wanted. The third time she asked, I think she felt embarrassed about her forgetfulness and in an attempt to make small talk, pointed at the food on my plate and exclaimed "What is THAT!" After about five seconds of her pointing at my plate, she awkwardly dropped her hand and walked away. When she returned to our table again sans mimosa and water (at this point, nearing the end of our meal), my boyfriend specifically requested that she make a note to bring water and a mimosa for us. About an hour after I had first asked for a second mimosa, I finally got it; not quite the bottomless drink special I was hoping for. With all the great press and reviews for this place, I'm hoping I just went here on an off day. With it's cute ambience and interesting food options, it pains me to give Jax Cafe such a low rating, but it's really all my experience merited.

Our first time @ Jax was nothing to do back flips over. I've listed negative and positive comments so lets start with negative and try to end on a positive note., 1. Food was not close to even being warm 2. Biscuits were hard and burnt, gravy couldn't soften them up 3. Buffet and omelet station should be move to the other end of the bar so staff isn't wandering thru patrons with hot chafing dishes. 4.Make a fruit salad or have a better presentation of the fruits offered. maybe include grapes, sliced oranges. 5. Coffee should be a given with brunch 6. Staff should wear appropriate clothing, maybe all black or a uniform, unprofessional dress, except for the guy manning the omelet station and the bartender. 7. Replace the light bulbs that are burnt out. 8. Maybe offer dessert item. Something simple. 9. Nothing on the buffet was identified 10. Where do you put the lid for the chafing dish? Positives; 1. Price 2. Bottomless mimosa's 3. Friendly staff

Great coffee, service, charming little restaurant! A nice find in a tiny little community. I had the basic breakfast, you know, eggs, toast, and bacon, but the jam is the part that will keep you going back! It's made there at Jax and I could eat it by the spoonful, it's so good! My only complaint is the fried potatoes were dry (meaning no oil, no steam). Maybe it's a healthier option, but I would have liked the option to have my taters fried in oil, I like that they took nutrition into account when preparing my food, however. How cool is that?

Benton Park has a solid history of being a neighborhood where restaurants settle in and earn tenure, which is a challenge in the hospitality industry in any city or neighborhood. Sidney Street Cafe and Frazer's are great examples of anchors in Benton Park, each with 20+ years under their belts. Benton Park Cafe is off to an impressive run with a great rep and steady business. Yemanja Brasil, Blues City Deli, have established roots that are going deep into South City soil. There is a new kid on the block and I'm rooting for this one! Jax Cafe could be the next in the line of the BP area success stories. It occupies the former Pointer's Market, just a block from Venice Cafe and Frazer's. The interior is simple and quaint. The walls have plenty of interesting art and the bar has a poly-coated penny surface. Very cool. The food has been great on each of three visits. So far, I have had the hazelnut pancakes, G's Breakfast Sandwich and the chirizo quesadilla. The pancakes were perfect, and what stood out was that chef sprinkled a little brown sugar on each and broiled them for a brulee effect. They were so good, I did not need to add syrup. The creme anglaise was enough to seal the deal. G's Breakfast Sandwich was my exact idea of what a b-fast sandwich should be. The potatoes were some of the best I've tasted. Portions were ample (I could have saved half the sandwich for lunch), but I could not stop eating. The quesadilla was delicious. Spicy without being challenging. The apple slaw was a nice medium-sweet and complimented the spice in the sausage nicely. It needed no condiments, but the salsa added just a little smoke and tang. I live so close to the place that I could eat here every day. I think I will settle for every-other day until I make my way through the menu. Sunday Brunch here I come! Props to Chef Brian Hale for his vision of a simple, tasty and well prepared menu. The man knows food and it shows in this incarnation of his (and his business partner's) imagination. They are hitting this one out of the park. But this is a guy who has been hitting homers for a long time. Welcome to the neighborhood!

This brunch was *delicious*. We went with a big group of 11 (made reservations) and we had some issues with getting an 11th chair, but the owner & the waitresses were very accommodating. Turns out they were short-staffed that morning, so some of the mis-communication was due to the fact that they were *packed*. The brunch buffet with unlimited mimosas was delicious. There's even an omelete station where you can order an omelet with 7-10 different options for ingredients. When I got mine, it was nice and fluffy and quite enjoyable. The biscuits were yummy and the gravy paired with them very nicely. There was fresh fruit, potatoes, chorizo eggs, waffles (very good), bacon (nice and crisp!), link sausages, muffins, pastries, and even something that looked like ceviche or gravlax in a martini glass (others tried it and returned for seconds & thirds)! The brunch is all you can eat and the mimosas are bottomless... The service was very good for a busy Sunday morning and I look forward to the Spring when we can sit outside. :-) We will definitely be returning.

It was an alright place. We went for brunch which was $17 a piece and the endless Bloody Mary option for $5. Bloody Mary's were alright but I'd rather spend more on one that was actually good. The brunch buffet was nothing impressive. Dry biscuits and waffles. Cold scrambled eggs and a few slices of fruit. The omelet bar was good tho! In conclusion i think I could of made myself a better breakfast for $17 .. I wouldn't probably go back, but I give them kudos for trying with the bottomless bloody Mary's

I've been here for brunch, lunch and dinner. The brunch is my favorite - how can you not like bottomless mimosas? Food is excellent at lunch and dinner as well. However, like other commenters, I have found that the waitresses are not always the best. I usually sit at the bar and always get good service there.

Great place! Been here multiple times since opening and the staff is always very friendly. I've gotten the Stuffed French Toast every time and it's AWESOME! It comes with regular Captain Crunch but if you get it with Peanut Butter Crunch it's even better. My husband usually gets the Breakfast Sandwich and he loves it. The service can be a tad on the slow side at times, but it's never too bad. The only thing I wish they would do is expand their breakfast menu a little more. We will definitely keep going back here!

I had SUCH an enjoyable breakfast with my husband here. The biscuits and gravy were AWESOME!! My husband got the G's breakfast sandwich which the waitress recommended. I of course tried a bite and it was delicious. The breakfast potatoes were just ok, but there was a HUGE portion of them. The waitress was the BEST. She was so sweet, friendly, and attentive. I will DEF be back. Must go!

I brought 6 friends with me this past Saturday evening. We had a reservation for 7 at 8:30, we were running about 15 min. late, which I phoned the restaurant. When we arrived our table was not ready, so we waited another 15 min. at the bar. I have been here several times for dinner over the last month it has never been crowded...but it was packed last Saturday night. I struggle spending money in a place where the chef is rude and arrogant, however the server over compensated for all the errors that were to unfold. After we ordered, nearly 75% of our food was no longer available...beets...not available, scallops...not available, halibut...not available...so on and so on. If it hadn't been for the server's sense of humor, we would have walked out. The owner introduced herself to our table....eventually his royal highness came out of the kitchen to greet some of my guest as they requested to see him as past customers. I had similar incident a few weeks ago, so he knew me...never looked up, never acknowledge my presence...even though I had brought 6 new customers to his place...for a grand total of 15 new customers for the month. Like the other gentleman said in his review....the evening was full of drama...the waiter walked out, then came back, then left again...it was most entertaining! The food we were able to taste was delicious....and I would definitely go back just for the food....but I would seriously think before I brought clients there to dine....It may reflect poorly on me. Lastly, I always support local business' and try my best to make small places like Jax succeed....but it doesn't seem like the chef supports his customers based on my 4 experiences to date. Keith

Very nice brunch. Quiet place early. Staff was very friendly. $5 for all you care to drink mimosas. After three I was done. Very nice and strong. Brunch had a southwest theme today. Everything I are was good. Fresh asparagus on a buffet is unheard of and it was great.

Best brunch! From amazing pastries, to a freshly prepared omelette made before your eyes, to b n' g, to crab salad, this is where it's at! Did I mention unlimited mimosas? Oh, well yes...and they are delicious. Mix all that with amazing staff and bartenders, and you'll leave happy and full! Love this place!

Small menu, but it's a quality over quantity kind of small. Every dish I've tried is genuinely perfect, and the atmosphere and service is amazing, too. I can't recommend the G's Breakfast Sandwich enough... My new favorite sandwich... The hash browns are the best I can remember ever having. The breakfast burrito is great. Best of all, my best friend has some odd dietary needs, and they seemed all too happy to whip something special up for her off menu. The owner is very friendly, and looking to expand hours if he can, so... Let's help him out with that, shall we?

Good sandwiches, but still cant get over the curdled creamer that was served with my coffee. The waiter (who was waiting on the entire restaurant) was pleasant enough and of course offered to bring milk but by then my appetite had diminished considerably. I will be back to try again, but Mrs. C really enjoyed her sandwich.

We stumbled into this place after running into long lines for Sunday brunches at some of the other nearby restaurants. Fortunately Jax Cafe had plenty of seats open at the bar. They were offering a Mardi Gras themed buffet for only $17 (which included some well-received bottomless mimosas). Extremely high quality food, some delicious pastries, and an awesome omelette station made it one of the better buffets I've had. Definitely a good way to do a Sunday brunch.

Went here for happy hour it was a nice lil place on the corner with plenty off natural light... It's a lil "thrown together" but it's a nice atmosphere. Food was ok but it had great happy hour specials on food and drink. I guess my only problem was the bartender didn't listen well got confused and ordered what I had questions about so instead of one item I got a couple of items brought out... But the brunch seems to be where it is at and I will definitely check it out!

While the food was excellent, the service was not just lacking--it was distracting from the meal. While it was quite busy on a Saturday night, the drama and frustration spilling out of the kitchen was inexcusable. After being shifted around and Dow the bar to make room for a setting a table up for the server's friends, my companion got a wine refill on the house. After the impromptu floor show, we got one of our meals on the house. Our server came storming out of the kitchen exclaiming he had been fired. He toured the dining room and went out the door--only to return and be scolded by one of the chefs to "leave now"...but only to return again and then go back to serving his table of friends. I stood by the cash register approximately 10 minutes to just get our bill and leave. The owner said something about someone unexpectedly quitting, and her having to be absent due to a function at WashU. I am sure we were not the most displeased patrons that evening. The only bad move by the kitchen is serving a pork chop in a bowl. Nearly impossible to cut with only slanted surfaces.

Absolutely DELICIOUS food. This is the place to go for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I've been there twice and split dishes with folks, so I've tried a lot if their food and have never been anything but extremely impressed. These are the items you MUST try: the jax burger, truffle fries, the stuffed French toast (with captain crunch!), potato salad, pretzel sliders, and the chicken biscuit. Also, the specials have been incredible. Staff was super friendly and helpful. I love the inside decor. Please try as soon as you can!

Came here for Sunday brunch. Damn! I felt like a little kid on Christmas Day when I spotted the oysters in the martini glasses. This place had me w/ the G's burger, but oysters @ brunch...it's too much! Great selection--everything from the traditional brunch fare (waffles, BACON, fresh fruit...) to hummus & an omelet station. $17 for all you can eat + bottomless mimosas + coffee. This maybe my new fav spot in town. My stomach thanks you, Jax :-D

It's not away to to brunch as well as Chef Brian does it at Jax. He executes classic breakfast food for the buffet and not only gives tasteful twists to upgrade the experience (like a nice caramel sauce for the waffles) but maintains the soul of essentials like biscuits and gravy. Best of all he could not be more welcoming as you come in the door, and the entire staff shares his passion for making you feel like a personal friend and a guest of honor.

My first review. I travel a lot for business and this is my second day in a row eating here. The owner/chef is most creative. This dude could work at any 5-Star restaurant. Any city USA. Staff was really welcoming and friendly. It is a fairly new business so still working out some kinks but thats anywhere who is just getting started. I had the salmon benedict and my bf had the chicken biscuits. We were both more then pleased with our food. The Sunday brunch seems like a nice deal with unlimited mimosas too. I will probably try it next time. The only thing I would have liked to have seen were more breakfast options on the menu for customers not wanting the buffet; other then that I have to say Jax has a pretty good thing going!

We thought to try this place today for brunch thought the price was high at 17$ went up to get some food and there were no clean plates at all only ones with dried food on them and one spoon to get all the food out i have nothing good to say and not friendly at all should be a C rating from the health dept .

The decor was nice. My daughter ordered the grilled cheese sandwich, it was more like a tomato with a slice of cheese sandwich. It literally tasted like someone put tomato paste and called it a grilled cheese sandwich. However, the pretzel slider was delicious and very tender! Our server wasn't attentive though, nor was she friendly. Overall ... The plating was beautiful, the food was alright, with the exception of their awesome pretzel sliders. Save yourself the curiosity and money and just order the pretzel sliders!

Great low-key, neighborhood eatery. We went for Sunday brunch when it was busy, but the wait was only about 5 mins. The chef does a great job making sure you don't feel neglected while waiting. Our cocktails were nice and strong, perfect for a sunday morning. We decided to pass on the brunch buffet, which looked amazing to get the chicken biscuits with sirachi honey butter. The biscuits were perfect in size and the chicken was juicy and flavorful. One of the best breakfast items I have ever had. The best way to start out a relaxing sunday. We will back to try the brunch and enjoy happy hour. The restaurant has a great atmosphere as well with a friendly wait staff and a chef that really strives for customer happiness.

We went for a late lunch, the food was very good. Service was ok, server forgot my soup & my friends salad & we didn't say anything. I don't get why servers want to not write anything down & then they forget 1/2 of your order. The place is cute & the food was excellent, service could improve but we all have bad days.

Since we've already tried every other brunch spot in Benton Park, we decided to check out Jax Cafe one Sunday morning before a Rams game. Walking in around 9:30, we came to find out that they were offering a brunch buffet with unlimited mimosas for $17! With unlimited mimosas, I'm never really worried about what the food is going to taste like, but they were offering up some tasty options. My favorites were the shrimp cocktail and the omelette station that boasted ingredient choices of crab, chorizo, and some fancy cheeses that I forget the name of. The atmosphere is like that of a high-end cafe minus the stuffy feel. It's a small space, but it's a very open setup, creating a relaxing, wake yourself up at your own pace type of feel. The service was friendly and extremely attentive. Our coffee mugs and mimosa glasses remained full throughout the entire meal. After an hour and a half and a combined 10 mimosas, 7 cups of coffee, and 3 omelettes between the two of us, we came to realize that it was time to go to the game and we forgot to print off our tickets. So, we asked our server if they had a computer and printer in the back that we could borrow. She talked to the manager who came out of the back with a laptop for us to use. How accommodating! Jax Cafe is relatively new to the neighborhood, but it's an instant classic.

The biggest debate about this restaurant is if it should be one or two stars. We had brunch today and the food was unimpressive. Not to mention the salmon was sitting out with nothing to keep it cool (and flies flying around it). The Bloody Mary was not good. The waiting staff was unresponsive, and the atmosphere was uneasy and cramped. Even though they only had the brunch menu today, I am not sure if I would go back to try the regular menu.

This place was awful, at least on the day we visited, during the Labor Day Gateway Cup bicycle races. A sign on the door warned the kitchen would be closed from 2-4 pm. We arrived at 1:30 and figured there would be no issue. No wait staff tended to us at all. I asked for menus at the bar, but no one came to take an order, even for drinks. I went to the bar to ask if we could enter an order and if I could at least get a drink while we waited. The woman I spoke to said someone else had been assigned our area and that she could not get me a drink. Finally, she came to our table at 1:50 and said the kitchen was getting ready to close and that we could not get any food either. It was probably just as well as the kitchen appeared dirty and the employees seemed to be arguing with each other when I visited the restroom. The establishment even sponsored the bicycle races, presumably in exchange for a payment to the promoter. If you can't serve food or drinks during the race, why bother? They get 1 star just because they had a nice selection of Sharpies with which my son could draw on the paper table cover while we sat for 20 minutes. Follow-up: I just checked their website to find that they are not usually open on Mondays. Perhaps the fact that employees had to work on what is normally a day off (and a holiday to boot) doomed my experience. They should have remained closed for the day and saved everyone the trouble.

Had a GREAT time!!! The executive chef is very personable, he even came out and introduced himself at the table. Food was awesome! I suggest trying the grilled cheese, the G's burger, and the fish tacos. Also the cocktails were well made, try the Bloody Mary!!! I will definitely be going back very soon to try more on the menu and for a fantastic time!!!

We went for Sunday Brunch and were impressed. Besides the usual breads & bagels, there was a house made cheese-filled pastry with cinnamon sugar that was SOgood. All the dishes were unusual and tasty...crawfish muffins, potato pancakes, and almond french toast! There was a huge bowl of fresh fruit and the most amazing seafood martini...lump crabmeat, shrimp and mussels in a yummy sauce. The waitress seemed very young and awkward, but service was adequate. They seem to need a bigger coffee maker, as we were told twice that fresh coffee was being made, and, the cafe was not crowded. The coffee was good and worth the short wait. I ALMOST FORGOT...umlimited Mimosas come with the Brunch; a Bloody Mary Bar is available for $6. Of course, we went back for lunch that week. The special was hanger steak with collard greens and creamed corn...so unique and SOgood! The Significant Other had the sliders on pretzel buns. He didn't rave, but declared them to be good. Hope they have much success.

Excellent food for an excellent price! Went on Saturday around lunch and we were one of 2 couples there. Weather was beautiful so we sat outside; great neighborhood surrounding. Service was a little slow, but there was only 1 person working inside so that's understandable. The menu was limited but full of great options. I tried the chicken biscuits with a side of truffle fries and they were both absolutely delicious! And the price was fantastic: ~$25 for 2 people. Will definitely come back again. Five star food and overall experience.

Ever since I saw the photo of sea bass in Sauce in September 2014 I have wanted to dine at Jax Café. Finally, nearly a year later, Ms T and I joined the D's here for Saturday night dinner. We were excited to dine here since we are fans of Sidney Street Café. We took a good bottle of wine, corkage is $10. Jax is a nice little place on a corner in the Benton Park neighborhood. Parking can be a bit of a problem because it is street. We were able to get within a couple of blocks. We had reservations and were seated promptly. Our wine was opened and we just ordered the Fried Asparagus as an appetizer since we had already had a nice starter at the D's house. The asparagus was breaded and deep fried with some mozzarella and served with an aioli. It was the best part of the meal after the wine. Ms D and Ms T both ordered a Chicken Breast that was served over couscous. The chicken was very plain, pretty much unseasoned, relatively tasteless and generally uninspired. Ms D and I liked the couscous though, which included some cherry tomatoes and an occasional raisin. I grew up eating fresh walleye from fishing trips to Minnesota. I have always said that it is fish for people who don't like fish. So I almost ordered it, but had my mind made up for the Teres Major. Mr D did order the Walleye and was underwhelmed. I was picturing a nice filet, paneed to a golden color. He received three small cross-cut slices with skin on that just looked steamed to me. when I saw it, I was glad I did not order it, however....... My Teres Major was not really any better. I am a fan of beef chuck; braised, roasted and ground for burgers and meat loaf. It is about all I buy. I was hungry for a steak and decided to try this trendy, cool steak, taken from the chuck and purported to be the second-most tender muscle on the beef. It was cooked properly (medium rare). It was not really tough, but certainly could not be called tender. I had some difficulty cutting it and it was what I would call, solid. Chuck, even the teres major, just does not work well as a steak no matter what the chefs are pushing. The bigger issue was that this was unseasoned and the meat tasted sour. I don't think they touted it as grass-fed, but I wondered. It just was not well flavored. It was served with baked beans, a huge serving of overly creative, ill-conceived baked beans, made of all things, with red kidney beans. Nothing should be made with red kidney beans. This was heavy, sweet and sour and loaded with onion and a few of those raisins again. I barely touched the beans. I really wanted the oyster mushroom Bordelaise and dirty mashed potatoes that they listed on the menu on-line. (they don't maintain their menu up-to-date on their website). The final accompaniment was some corn bread that I can safely say was the worst I have ever eaten. It was somehow powdery-floury, like it was made from corn flour rather than corn meal and the flour was not all wetted. This also did not get eaten. All the way around the table, we were underwhelmed and even disappointed. It is not often that all four of us get meals we would not order again, in a place like this. When we walked in, I was expecting so much more from Jax. I had visions of taking Bro J and TT there. The menu reads much better than the food. Our service was fine but the chef missed the mark both in concept and in execution. Apparently this might be a better place for the Sunday brunch.

Descriptive phrase: delicious brunch buffet. Jax Cafe's Sunday brunch buffet ($17) came highly recommended. And adding unlimited mimosas for another $4 is hard to beat. It's a cute space with plenty of street parking nearby. Our only sour note was the terrible service, but we overlooked that with the quality of the food. This particular day (it changes) the buffet was southwest-themed. We tried near everything they had and it was all fantastic. In particular I enjoyed the very spicy breakfast chili. Jax Cafe isn't an every-week brunch, but it's very nice every once and a while for a quality morning meal.

Let me start by saying Jax Cafe is absolutely my favorite place in St Louis to get lunch! It doesn't end there either as the service is always extra friendly and the value is great also Of the items I've had, I'll discuss a few that stand out: - The Burger is amazing and is one of the best in St Louis. The combination of the housemade steak sauce, bacon and boursin is amazing and the onion strings give a nice contrast in texture. - The pretzel sliders are so soooo good! The brisket is tender, very flavorful and the combination of mushroom and horseradish with white cheddar is really amazing - I would take this over the brisket sandwich from any of the big time BBQ places in STL! - Other favorites I've had are the Chicken Biscuit and Daffy Duck. A couple awesome and unique options! Oh, and for all of the above get the truffle fries for a nominal fee - totally worth it! My only criticism would be that this place can get a bit busy on a Friday during lunch and sometimes they seem a bit understaffed in the front of the house. As of lately, this seems to be improving but something to keep track of as these servers are great and deserve the best! Go here if you haven't already - hats off to Chef Hale for such a great restaurant with some of the best food around!

Jax's Sunday brunch buffet is pretty top-notch. Quality sausage, bacon, potatoes, biscuits, gravy, and more. And the made-to-order omelets are a very nice touch. It's in a quiet little corner of Benton Park and offers a cozy place to grab a bite or a drink. However, I don't know if I came on an off day or what, but we left on a rather sour note. As Jax had been talked up by friends my expectations were rather high, so the poor service we had there was really disappointing. No one was rude, don't get me wrong, they were just horribly understaffed. The 1 chef and 1 omelette maker had to help the 1 server/bartender with cleaning and bringing out food for the whole restaurant. It was a messy rush for the entirety of our stay. Having limited knowledge of Jax's brunch, we left with just as little. Literally no one came to talk to us about the buffet and after 10 minutes the 1 stressed server/bartender came for our drinks. After dropping them off (but not giving any information on the restaurant) we didn't hear from anyone again for 20+ minutes (grabbed someone for a refill), and then once more at the end (grabbing someone for our check). Without info we guessed and just went to the buffet line to grab a plate. There were no signs or menus or rules, so I went up a few times. Like I stated earlier, all the food was good-to-okay. Zero complaints there. Another big annoyance - without any info or help I didn't realize the $17 price tag for the buffet included *everything*. We ordered a soda and a coffee, not realizing that bottomless mimosas were available and that any other drink was part of the price. I would have ordered juice etc. if I had known that. I thought $17 for a decent buffet was a little steep but not too bad, but when I realized too late everything that came with it I was incredibly annoyed no one mentioned it. Oh well. I may try Jax again in the future for lunch/dinner/drinks, but I have no real desire to go back on my own any time soon. Hopefully for them the one day I came was just a fluke and they aren't always so short staffed.

We stopped here for a quick bite before touring the Brewery down the road. The pretzel sliders were phenomenal...one DID come out with a hair in it (a long one. I'm talking like 6-7 inches) but the other two were great! husband had the chorizo burger that was on special. It was pretty good but not special enough to order again. Overall a good place to eat, we'd stop back in for the sliders but probably not make a point to stop by every visit to the city.

An absolutely delicious menu and a fabulous, inviting staff. The atmosphere in Benton Park adds to it's quirky charm. I would recommend Jax to anyone! We went on a whim after hearing great things about brunch. We came for dinner, and the Chilean sea bass changed my life. Now we HAVE to make it back for Sunday brunch! Neal was one of the best waiters we have ever had. Bravo, Jax! Please, keep doing what you're doing. St. Louis needs more gems like you.
